To promote and enhance the social welfare of the inhabitants of the region.

To upgrade the educational, cultural and social environment of the region.
To provide a forum for the sharing ideas and proactive interaction.
To assist the deserving poor and the needy.

Following the sad events of 1968, a group of young professionals and public officers of Plaine Verte decided that there was a need to contribute towards nation building. It was thought at that time that sound leisure and sports as well as education were means to this end.

Consequently, “Le Goulet Club” was formed and provided for indoor activities like domino, carom, table tennis, academic debates and forum whilst members could also practice swimming, body building and football. Open to all inhabitants of the region irrespective of religious beliefs, the club grew in dimension and was ultimately registered as the Century Welfare Association in 1969.

A new era started in 1977 when the association was awarded a plot of land of about 720 m2 in Cité Martial. At a time when the economic situation was at its lowest, it took some five painstaking years for a building of 300 m2 to be completed. Since then, in line with the needs of the region, the objectives have evolved to a more socio-cultural orientation and the 300 m2 building has made room for a double storey one of 750m2. Membership has grown from 35 in 1969 to 255 in 2011. In addition a ladies wing comprising of 115 members is fully engaged in the association’s endeavour.

Our Roadmap

1966

Royal Muslim was formed

It was situated on Bridge, Route des Pamplemousses and was composed of three members: Ahmed Ramjauny, Farad Ramjauny and Shamsher Coowar.

Royal Star formed at same time

It was situated on Bridge, Route des Pamplemousses and was composed of three members: Said Nisa, Siddick Toorab and Fareed Nisa.

1968

Le Goulet Club was Formed

Royal Muslim merged together with Royal star to form Le Goulet Club with around 40 members. It was represented by Anif Jooroodeen, Ton Maurice, Haujee; Fareed Nanhuck.Le Goulet Club offered some activities: Swimming bassin Taylor, Carrom, Domino, to practise by members of club.

Football Coaching and New Members

Football was coached by Mr Coowar and practised by members. New members : Fezal Abdoolah, Cader Abdoolah, Swaley Abdoolah , Rashid Boolaky.

1969

Social Club Known as Century Club

The club moved to a larger seat at pamplemousses street with about 200 members. The activities provided by club was : Judo, Karate, Halteroplilie, Football, Natation

1975

Moved to Cite Martial

The Seat of the club moved to Cite Martial with Moortooza Garia as President.

Eastern Youth Club

Situated at Paul et Virginie st Port Louis

Club 3 Etoile

Situated at Route des Pamplemousses

Century Club

Situated at Cite Martial Macao street with 200 members. The activities practised was Football, Indoor games: Islamic Orientation, Islamic Literacy Circle and Education of youth.

New Members Joined

New members joined Century club: Issa Elahee, Gorah Samdooseen, Ismael Valymaode, Sheik Dawood and Abdoolatiff.

1976

Century Welfare Association Social Centre

Honorary President Haydar Peerbaye- Business man.Century Welfare association is situated on plot of state land Kleber street. The building was designed by Fouad Uteene and Ismael Nazir.

Building Construction

After door to door fund raising, building construction started at ground floor.

School for Handicaped Children

Provided Specialised School for handicapped children with Zohra Rajah as person in charge.

Inauguration

Century Welfare association was inaugurated by Cassam Uteem and new members joined :- Ismael Deensah, Ibrahim Deensah and Hossen Cajee..

1996

New President

After the demise of Late Moortooza Garia, Century welfare assocation directed by new president Ahmud Fouad Uteene.

Extension of Ground Floor

To improve the social services, there was extension of hall and office at ground floor.

First and Second Floor Construction

Construct classes on First and Second floor and Roof Extension.

Parking Facilities

Bought 2 plots of land at ground floor for parking facilities.

Extension of Entrance

Extension of Entrance and New wing including staircase

Sponsorship Application

New projects apply for sponsorship: Specialised School for handicapped Children

Provide Public Activities

Activities provided for public: Women Centre, Therapy centre, Gym, Mind care centre, Outreach program

Future Projects

Projects for the future: Playground and hydroponic program for students with disabilities, Construction of day care facilities for the elderly at pamplemousses/ Port Louis
