Ecole d’accompagnement

DESCRIPTION OF SCHOOL

The  Women centre  houses  a school for young girls aged 13 to 16 yrs-called “École d’accompagnement’ and is reserved for :

  1. Girls who have dropped out of school who are not working but are at home.
  2. Girls from poor families cannot afford to send them to school.
  3. Girls from broken homes where the parents are either divorced or one of the parents is in prison and there is no one to take charge of the girls.

OPERATION OF SCHOOL

The school is run on a full-time basis 5 days a week. The emphasis is on the moral development of the girls so as to enable them to be better women in the future and as such the teaching of human values and Islamic studies are given due consideration. The physical development of the girls is also ensured by regular aerobic classes in the gym of the center. Embroidery and painting classes are held to develop the manual skills of the girls. 

The number of girls attending classes is presently 14 and it is planned to start a second class in 2010, thus bringing the student population to about 30 in the age group of 12 to 16 yrs old.

The two teachers for the school are employed on a full-time basis to ensure continuity of teaching. External tutors from the Ministry of Women and other institutions deliver lectures, once a week, on specific subjects like adolescent life, personal hygiene, and home economics.

BENEFICIARIES OF THE SCHOOL

The school is intended to directly benefit all the  young girls, irrespective of communities, of the region of P-Verte, Vallee Pitot, Camp Yoloff, Vallee Des Pretres and adjoining regions like Cite La Cure, St Croix etc who are at home and who wish to receive basic education for life. It is the convinced opinion of the association that the school will serve as a focal point for all the young girls of the region who are distressed and wish to find solutions and comfort to their problems.

OBJECTIVES OF SCHOOL

The objectives of the school are:

  1. To impart basic education to enable the girls to read, write and do basic calculations.
  2. To develop the girls morally and give them a sense of direction in their future life as head of a family.
  3. Afford  the girls a decent and well-structured environment where, as a group, they will be able to develop their talents for cookery, painting, Craftsmanship, embroidery, etc.
  4. Enable them as a group to live and learn together and develop a sense of community life and social service.
